When you take a walk in the area you’ll feel as though you’ve entered not just a different country but a different continent. Streets are lined with stands selling exotic foodstuffs such as live eels, square watermelons and hairy rambutans besides cheap jewelry and 99 cents shops. Here you’ll find restaurants representing the cuisine of virtually every province of mainland China and Hong Kong, plus Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai and Vietnamese eateries and shops. As Chinatown — New York City's largest Asian community — continues to grow, it merges with neighboring Little Italy and the Lower East Side.

For the records "East Broadway" is the closest subway station which is a 6-8 minutes walk. But there's the M15 bus which is just on my corner (Catherine St and Madison St). It will take you all the way up on 1st Avenue to 125th Street. On the way back, it's pretty simple as well. You can take it anywhere on 2nd Avenue and it will take you again all the way down to the Catherine Street stop. And if you're looking for a nice NYC Transportation app I can recommend a very useful one called "Bus NYC" which brings you all bus stops and subway stations, maps, etc....
