Rental Details
This is the perfect place for a romantic break or family holiday situated in the heart of the Howardian Hills in North Yorkshire. You will find ducks and chickens roaming free outside, light airy rooms inside and an attractive sunny patio and garden in which to relax - it’s a real rural idyll.
Footpaths lead in all directions within a few steps of the front door of the cottage, with access to the Vale of York, the Howardian Hills and the Yorkshire Moors. As well as being a popular area for cycling and riding, visitors to the region are attracted by the amenities close to The Granary Barn, which include award winning pub, ‘The Durham Ox’ at Crayke, and the nearby market town of Helmsley with its attractive stone houses and cottages, tea rooms, and delicatessens, and, of course, the famous Michelin starred pub ‘The Star at Harome’.
The local attractions of Riveaulx Abbey, Duncombe Park, Helmsley Walled Garden, and Castle Howard are all within easy driving distance, whilst York and all its attractions are only half an hour away. Helmsley also has an open air swimming pool open in the summer. Those who prefer swimming in the sea can explore the beautiful sands of the Scarborough and Whitby coast, only one hour away. Golf and riding are available locally and there is racing at York, Thirsk and Ripon.

Barn Information
Accessibility
I would suggest that is not suitable for wheelchair users as there are steps both down to the cottage and inside it. A full access statement is available in the cottage, or in advance, by post, on request. You can download a pdf of our access statement by clicking here.
Animals
There are chickens and ducks in the garden – both are free range, so if you are scared of birds this may not be the place for you! Also, they do make happy clucking noises which may disturb you if you are a light sleeper (no cockerel though!). Please do bring ear plugs if you think this may be the case. There are no refunds for sleepless nights I’m afraid.
We charge a £10 supplement for a well-behaved dog. If there is a danger that they may chase cats, ducks or chickens then they must be kept on a lead whilst in the garden. There is a footpath at the end of the drive where you can take your dog for his or her ablutions. Please be conscientious about picking up any dog accidents that occur in the garden itself as there are children who use the garden. At no time are dogs to be left unattended in the property.
Breakfast
All the produce which we serve is sourced from our own hens and ducks or local suppliers, which guarantees good quality, a great tasting breakfast AND the fact we are supporting our neighbours (local farmers and producers).
Home from Home
You may use the kitchen in the cottage to make yourself hot and cold drinks. There is a fridge which you are welcome to use for your own provisions. Bathrooms are equipped with toiletries. Use of the cooker, for example to make meals for babies and infants, can be arranged by prior agreement.
