Rental Details

Be Village Headquarters is a cabin in the woods + a cottage on the beach AND a cutting-edge art gallery, right outside of city sights. Our quiet little beach even has a Boston skyline view. It’s an amazing unique atmosphere, at under market-rates, and a super-peaceful retreat --- but ONLY IF you love antiques, the beauty of eclectic oddities, and are tolerant of imperfections --- in a 110-year-old house being lovingly restored. PLEASE read the FULL listing, especially 'caveats,' and 'other things to note,' especially if it's your first time staying in a beach cottage or cabin or this kind of home-stay experience.

If you're like most of our guests - you'll love our ocean views and half-block stroll to the beach. Will you read on the porch in the hammock, listening to birds chatter and watching squirrels play? Will you grill steaks or boil fresh local lobsters, and eat out on the deck? We're just outside Boston, near Quincy Center, w/good public transport, free parking, & 10 minutes' drive to the freeway – it's like Boston + Cape Cod combined!

*** CAVEATS: The yard is a nature preserve (wild!). Genteel summer camp-like-ness rules the roost (rustic!). Outside: you may see skunks, possums, slugs, or a raccoon poking around, but they're harmless - just going about their business. Inside: there's almost always a beetle, spider, or a couple other country insects meandering - also Not out to get you. We avoid chemicals, and an authentic cottage of this period is permeable: this is how we live 365 days a year - we've never been attacked yet!

Neighborhood is safe & peaceful, but there may be occasional random neighbor noise; house is calm & quiet, but w/some sound transmission - it's the downside to beautiful antique wood walls & ceilings. To us, it's a wonderful retreat like nowhere else in the world - & most of our guests agree! But if you're looking for the style and "perfection" of a contemporary hotel or suburban American 80s-00s McMansion, this is not for you.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
1. Kids: Numerous artworks at kid-eye level include things that look appealing to play with but i'd prefer they not be! They are not overly fragile but active young children will need to be kept in sight.

I also have numerous toys and games, that kids and adults are actively invited to play with. The majority of objects here can be touched and handled, with reasonable care.

2. Dis/abilities: 1 full flight of imperfect stairs outside, squirrels who like to throw walnuts on walk paths & such, & a flight of wood stairs inside.

3. Some of our playful, witty art references a bit of nudity & the existence of a concept called sex!

I've had 100's of guests, including children of Every Age and adults from 18 - elderly, and 99% are quite content (most are even overjoyed) with the decor. I raised my child (now an adult with his own home) around all this same stuff. One solution if you don't like a piece of art - don't look. Any given piece is not that obtrusive. This is not a McBanal hotel; it's my home. I'm an art collector and very liberal-minded. There are well over a hundred works of contemporary art here. Many are abstract paintings but others are more unusual sculptures or imagery.

4. LGBT friendly and we welcome all regardless of race, culture, country of origin, or level of english proficiency.
