Magical Maine Home in Limerick

Welcome to our lovely rustic 1760's cape - a haven in the woods for rest, reading, and contemplation - with ocean, lakes...and Portland less than an hour away!

Our gorgeous home is a wonderful combination of old charm and modern efficiency. We have a new fridge, washer and dryer, dishwasher, 6 burner Viking chef's stove, flat screen TV with DVD and Roku streaming box, in an open plan space. Lovely architectural elements include a double soapstone sink, 6' bathtub, and a fireplace pizza oven. It is beautiful in all seasons - contemplate the world from the open back porch that faces a classic Maine landscape view. The three bedrooms are spacious yet cozy.

The sleeping nook is a single bed, although not an enclosed room. It is perfect for kids, naps, and for those who do not want to take the stairs. There is room to spread out in the house - and 11 acres to walk. This house is wonderful for the entire family - or it is a place for solitary peace and rest. It is a writer's haven, or an explorer's base. Last winter we had a quilter who spread her work out on the dining room table and finished it by the wood stove!

There are a host and a hostess based locally who may be contacted with any questions or needs. Otherwise guests are free to be independent.

Limerick is a charming little town. The house is private and just a quick ride from the local amenities. The wildlife in the area includes deer, peepers, packs of wandering wild turkeys, raccoons, coyotes living their busy lives in the surrounding woods. You may even spot a bat or two!

One will need a car to get around...the house has a large u-shaped drive with plenty of parking. Limerick is approximately 45 minutes from the Portland Jetport--with several convenient car rental companies.

The best thing about staying in Limerick - other than the wonderful house - is that it is very convenient to use as a base for the Maine experience. It is a mere 30 minutes to ocean beaches including Old Orchard, or just 10 minutes to enjoy a fresh water lake, Long Pond, in Parsonsfield. Less than an hour away is Portland, with its plethora of restaurants, theater, and music. Equidistant in the opposite direction are the attractions of the White Mountains and the busy mecca of North Conway, New Hampshire. And lastly, as this is southern Maine...it is only two hours from Boston!

We have chosen not to subscribe to cable or satellite TV. The Roku box supplies endless TV shows and films, with subscriptions to HULU, Netflix and Amazon. There is also Pandora to fill the house with music - feel free to add your own station! There is a Wii box for virtual bowling, tennis, boxing and more. There is an array of board games on the back porch - and a piano, although tuning may be in order - let us know if you would like to play and we will see what we can do about that!
