La Maison d’Art is a uniquely beautiful cottage lies in the rural French countryside. This peaceful and newly renovated cottage is the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of life and is ideally situated to explore this beautiful and historic region, which has a wealth of sites, activities and attractions to suit the whole family, close by.

Delight yourself with medieval treasures, Romanesque churches, chateaux and vineyards, sample the local delicacies, or just relax in the seclusion of the tranquil garden.

The market town of Chef Boutonne with a 12th century Romanesque church and the Chateau Javazary, situated on the Boutonne river is just a 10 minutes drive from the house, holding markets every Saturday.

Walking, cycling, horse ridding, fishing, and canoeing in a tranquil setting is on the doorstep with a plethora of unspoilt, historic villages/towns to explore within easy reach.

La Maison d'Art is brand-new cottage in 2015, and is a completely detached and self-contained house with a private courtyard and access to larger gardens. It is the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of life and is ideally situated to explore this beautiful and historic region with a wealth of sites, activities and attractions to suit the whole family, close by.

La Maison d'Art is fully equipped to accommodate and sleep 4 people, but it can sleep up to 6 utilising the sofa, which can convert to a double bed.

We also offer painting holidays in beautiful surroundings for lovers of all things French. Get creative and rouse your inner artist on a painting holiday. Go, sit, stare and take in the view. Combine France’s superb scenery, and expert tuition from the inspirational Jean David, and experience your picture-perfect art holiday.

Neighborhood:
La Maison d’Art situated in the Deux-Sèvres department in south-western France, and it also belong to the Poitou-Charentes region. Deux-Sèvres means ‘Two Rivers”, i.e. Nantaise and Niortaise. We also have the Boutonne river, which its source is in our nearby village called Chef-Boutonne (means the head of the Boutonne river).

Although rurally situated, we are close to a variety of attractions:
5 minutes - Forest of Aulnay where you can enjoy birdwatching and nature;
10 minutes - Chef Boutonne where is the sources of the river Boutonne;
25 minutes - historic town of Melle with its Romanesque (UNESCO) church, and historical silver mines;
30 minutes - enjoy the zoo, Zoodyssée in Virollet;
40 minutes - visit the "Green Venice" of Marais Poitevin;
45 minutes - Cognac tasting and visit famous distilleries in the world renowned town of Cognac;
50 minutes - visit the monkeys park, Vallée des Singes;
1hr 25 minutes - enjoy a magical experience in the Aquarium of La Rochelle;
1hr 30 minutes - the new amazing theme park, Futuroscope;

About Your Hosts:
Your hosts are Jean and Isix, and both are Australian. Jean, a professional artist who is an internationally renowned oil painter and teacher who is passionate about art and painting. Isix previously worked in IT industry for 22 years, and is now forging ahead establishing the Maison and the business. After travelling around Europe for the last few years, we have now have setup La Maison d’Art to expand and develop Jean’s art practice.

La Maison d’Art has been completely renovated to an exceptionally high standard to provide a quality environment within a rural setting. Please note that you do not have to be an artist or be interested in art to book a stay at the maison – all are welcome! However, for the artistically minded, there is a fully equipped studio available to share with Jean if you come on an ‘Painting Holiday‘.

Notes on accommodation:
The rental price includes all bed and kitchen linen, towels. Everything in your gite will be ready for your arrival – beds made up. The cottage is supplied with a wifi connection. The BBQ is also free for the guest of La Maison d'Art. The cottage is non-smoking, but you are welcome to smoke outside using the ashtrays provided.

Outside: Enclosed private garden, barbecue, outdoor table and chairs for outdoor dining, and parasol.

The changeover day is flexible during non high season, but it will be fixed to Saturday during July & August period. Please confirm it with owner.

We have been traveling around the world and stayed at many different places, so we know the score and are happy to interact and share our local knowledge or leave you in peace.

Additional directional for getting to La Maison d'Art:
By Road - From Poitiers via Chef Boutonne:
Take D910 to N10 in the direction of Angoulême. Follow N10 to D948 in Limalonges. Take the D948 exit from N10. Continue on D948. Take D1 and then take D109 to Crézières. Follow the Semoussais sign, then take Rue de l'Ancienne Gare Semouss to Impasse des Jardins. La Maison d'Art is on the first gate of your right.

By Road - From Niort via Brioux-sur-Boutonne:
Head southwest on Rue du Commerce/D950 toward Place du Champ de Foire. Continue to follow D950 for 190 m. Turn left onto Route de Paizay le Chapt (D104). Continue to follow D104 for 7.4 km. Turn right onto Rue de la Mairie (D109) for 83 m. Turn left onto Route d'Aubigné (D104). Continue to follow D104 for 2.1 km. Turn left onto Rue de l'Ancienne Gare and continue about 750 m, turn right onto Impasse des Jardins. La Maison d'Art will be on the right.

By High Speed Train (TGV)
The nearest railway station is Niort, 39 km from La Maison d'Art. High speed trains run from all major cities to Poitiers, then change to a intercity train to Niort.

From Niort, there are a number of car hire company that you can hire a car from. I highly recommend you book your car prior to your travel.
