When driving over the causway to get to Village Retreat you feel like you are entering into another world. The Village of Beaverdams is filled with history. Steps from your front door, is the Beaverdams Church, the oldest Methodist church still standing in Ontario, as well as the site of the first free school in Canada. Thorold’s first post office was located on the island and many of the homes are original homes for the many workers and engineers building the historic Welland Canals. A walk through the Village connects you with the history of Niagara.
Throughout the spring and summer, the Island is bursting with life. A family of swans are a likely sighting on your way onto the island, among the fisherman and families along the banks. In the winter, the iced over water is the perfect skating rink for hockey and figure skaters alike. Surrounded by natural beauty, Village Retreat is a welcome resting spot for both the weary traveller or the active tourist. Please contact us with your inquiries.
