Rental Details
Sol Caribe is a small, exclusive beachfront resort on the Caribbean Sea with a variety of accommodation
on offer, from private cabañas for a couple or a family, to beachfront and loft suites. All our cabañas and
suites feature spacious individual rooms with king and double beds, large bathrooms and strong showers
with hot and cold running water and 24-hour electricity. Each cabaña and suite has a private deck with
lounge chairs and hammocks.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the beachfront restaurant & bar. Special dietary requests and
meal preferences can be honored if made at the time of reservation. Fresh seafood is plentiful as Punta
Allen, our local fishing village, is just 5 miles south.
The white sandy beach at Sol Caribe is the widest on this stretch of the coastal road south of Boca Paila,
and one usually has it all to oneself for miles around… the ultimate in relaxation, privacy and tranquility.
The lovingly tended tropical landscape around the cabañas blends naturally into the dense jungle of the
Sian Ka’an that surrounds Sol Caribe. A 10-minute walk along a footpath through jungle and mangrove
takes guests to the pristine waters of the lagoon, where kayaks are available for the enjoyment of our
guests.
With adequate lead time, it is possible to book the whole resort for special occasions.
In our new building we offer three Beach Suites, opening directly into the sand, each of them with two
double beds, ceiling fan, 24 hours electricity, closet, private bathroom with hot and cold shower, windows
with mosquito net and private terrace with hammock, table and chairs, comfortably sleeping 2-4 people.
The rate for a third person in the room, including a child, is US$30 per night.

preferences can be honored with adequate notice. Fresh seafood is plentiful as Punta Allen, our local
fishing village, is just 5 miles south. Naturally, our restaurant features great local Mexican cuisine - as well
as Argentinian, Italian and, of course, North American!
SIAN KA'AN BIOSPHERE RESERVE
The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a 1.3 million acre national park, founded in 1986 to protect and
preserve tropical jungle, forests, mangroves, savannas, coral reefs, cenotes (underwater caves) and a
smattering of Mayan ruins. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it is Mexico’s largest wetland
nature reserve.
Sian Ka’an marks the end of the Mayan Riviera just south of Tulum. Its endless stretches of untouched
mangroves, jungle, lakes, lagoons and deserted Caribbean beaches are home to an extraordinary array of
birds and wildlife in an ecologically protected environment. Sian Ka’an is home to many exotic creatures,
including 103 known mammal species (such as jaguars, tapirs, manatees, ocelots, crocodiles) and
336 known bird species (pelicans, falcons, vultures, cormorants, storks, and hundreds of exotic birds),
amphibians and reptiles.
There are very few inhabited spots along the coast, and development is tightly regulated, which gives this
50-km stretch of Caribbean Sea coastline a feeling of remote tranquility and relative isolation. The
atmosphere is in stark contrast to the rest of the Mexican Riviera further north – it is the anti-Cancun. The
wild road from Tulum through Boca Paila to Punta Allen at land’s end is one for the adventurous and
boasts fabulous views of sea, sky, sand and jungle. Sian Ka’an is truly deserving of its Mayan name,
meaning ‘where the Sky is born’.
Sian Ka’an is also an ideal place from which to explore the Meso-American Reef, the largest coral reef
system in the Western Hemisphere (and second-largest in the world after Australia’s Great Barrier Reef).
It extends over 450 miles from the northern coastal waters of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, along the
coasts of Belize and Guatemala, down to the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras. The Meso-American
Reef was recently identified as one of the Top 10 coral reef ‘Biodiversity Hotspots’ in the world.
It contains some of the most highly-developed coral formations in the world (more than 65 species of stony
coral), supporting an amazing diversity of marine life. More than 500 species of fish have been recorded
along the reef, many of which support the livelihoods of local fishermen residing along the Caribbean coast.
It is not uncommon to see dolphins while snorkeling along the reef and sea turtles lolling on the beaches.
The Sian Ka’an, and the Punta Allen area in particular, are world-class sites for saltwater flats and fly
fishing, and attract light-tackle anglers from around the globe year-round.

Muyil Ruins: Journey back in time on the ancient Sian Ka'an waterway. This not-to-be-missed boat tour
follows the Sian Ka’an canal, built by the native Mayans more than 1,000 years ago. During the course of
the tour, you’ll discover the exquisite turquoise Chunyaxche lagoon, as well as the ancient Xlahpak temple
– an incredible Mayan ruin known locally as “The Watch of the Lake. When getting to Muyil you will hike
inside the jungle to reach the impressive ruin of Muyil where you can climb the 17 m high “El Castillo” and
enjoy the breathtaking views. Learn about trees, plants and the history of this ancient ruin. Includes lunch.

Chac Mool all-day tour: visit the lagoon to the south, the bird island and find turtles, crocodiles, starfish
and dolphins. You will have to navigate the labyrinth of mangrove passageways to reach the Santa Rosa
peninsula.
Chac Mool is a small but interesting archaeological site, partially because of its remoteness, but also
because it has some similarities to Chichen Itza and Tulum. Chichen Itza, because there have been
several Chac Mool statues found there. You will find the namesake for the site, the reclining Chac Mool
which represents one of the most powerful deities of the ancient Maya. Chac was the God of rain and
thunder, and his color was red. It's interesting that one of the Chac Mool's hands was red, apparently a
remnant from its creators. Includes lunch. 7-8 hours

For those guests who are renting a car at Cancun airport, take Highway 307 south to Tulum (approx 1.5
hours). At the first crossroads in Tulum, turn left towards Tulum Playa (Beach) and take this beach road all
the way down to Sol Caribe (another 35 kms). After Tulum Beach, you will enter the Sian Ka’an Biosphere
Reserve through the arch at its northern entrance. It is impossible to get lost because there is only one road
heading south through the Reserve – and you’re on it!
Most guidebooks say that the road from Tulum to Punta Allen is terrible. Is this true and what kind of car do I
need for it?
It is true that the road used to be in terrible shape, particularly after storms. In the last year or so, however,
it has been extensively resurfaced and there are constant and ongoing improvements being made to it. You
can now get to Punta Allen from Tulum in around two hours and pretty much any car will do. In bad weather
though, a Jeep or 4-wheel drive will always come in handy. The closest gas station is in Tulum, so remember
to refuel before entering the Sian Ka’an. If you do run out of gas, however, usually somebody in Punta Allen is
always willing to sell you some.
Public transportation : There is a minivan from Tulum to Punta Allen at 2 pm daily leaving from the main taxi
station in Tulum. The price is $ 250 Pesos per person and way. The van leaves Punta Allen at 6 am heading
back to Tulum.
Private Airport transfer: We can arrange a private airport transfer for US$ 250 per way (for 1- 2 person, US$ 30
more for every additional person.)
At the request of many of our long-time guests, we have now installed wi-fi and it is available in the reception
area. Cellphone reception is still not available, however. We have a landline at Sol Caribe, which is
available to guests in emergencies.
Sol Caribe serves breakfast (7am to 10am), lunch (12pm to 3 pm) and dinner (6pm to 9pm); our restaurant is also open for guests not staying at the resort. The bar is a lively place and open until 10pm.
For guests who would like to sample the local cuisine, there are a number of restaurants in Punta Allen, a laidback fishing village five miles down the road.
There is plenty to do around Punta Allen and inside the Sian Ka’an! You can go sea kayaking or lagoon
