Route 7 Summary Oedolgae - Wolpyeong Olle Oedolgae to Ahwaenangmok in Wolpyeong Village 13.8km (4~5hrs) Intorduction This route is a seaside walking trail beginning at Oedolgae Rock passing through Beophwan Pogu and the Poonglim Resort until it reaches Wolpyeong Pogu. Pampas grass and wild flowers are abundant on this trail. One of the most loved points on the route is the Soobong-ro and Soobong-gyo. They are named after Kim, Soobong who built them himself. He used a shovel and picks to clear the road and moved big stones to make the bridge. Sightseeing Oedolgae Rock 외돌개 This was formed by volcanic activity at the same time as Jeju Island about 1.5 million years ago. The 20 meter stone pillar “Oedolgae” stands out and you can see a group of pine trees that grow at the very top of the pillar. Oedolgae was named for its isolated location in the sea and is unmissable spot.
Take a look at the wonderful colors of the sea and the beautiful forest. Ilgangjeong Trail 일강정 바당올레 During the development of the Ilgangjeong Badang Olle Trail, we could not pass the ‘Dumeonimul 두머니물 ~Seogeondo 서건도 ’ coastal area. The area was redeveloped into the Ilgangjeong Badang Olle in February, 2009. The rough boulder fields transformed into a beautiful path paved with small black stones illuminating the way. The path was created with diligence, through the process of hand picking and moving each stone. The stone pieces on the roadside were stacked one by one, in an effort to create an unforgettable beauty. The trail is almost like a stone park, filled with nature’s sculptures. Gangjeong has been praised for its high quality land and water that produced the best rice and crops in Jeju - thus called Ilgangjeong. In order to highlight the rich lands of the old Gangjeong, this path has been named the trail of Ilgangjeong. Seogeon-do (island) 서건도 The path to this island is open twice a day at low tide.
Gangjeong-cheon (stream) 강정천 This beautiful stream is home to sweetfish. Unlike other rivers in Jeju Island, the crystal clear water runs all year round. The temperature of the water is freezing in summer and it is a popular picnic location. Wolpyeong Pogu 월평포구 It is a small, beautiful Pogu(port), with softly illuminated moonlight in the background. Tewoo and Balons were present here as late as in the 1980s. The locals call the area Dongmulgae 동물개 , or Dongmul Port 동물포구 . Gutdang Promenade 굿당 산책로 It is a path that leads to the old Gutdang (shrine), a place where the residents of Wolpyeong village used to pray for the peace and wellbeing of the village. The gut (exorcism) was a weekly praying (iredang in Korean).
