Swanky Apt on Defensa in San Telmo

Quiet & peaceful, this stylish one-bedroom on the ground floor of an historic building, a conventillo. We renovated the kitchen & bathroom, restored the original pine floors, & added mid-century furniture. It's an eclectic mix of urban & vintage.

The Space
The Depto is perfect for a couple, but it can sleep three. It's on the ground floor of a famous building called Casa Colectiva Bernardino Rivadavia (and even has its own Wikipedia page).

To update this 100-year-old apartment, we knocked down a wall to open the kitchen up to the living room. Just beyond the kitchen is the patio/breakfast room surrounded by windows. Open them all up and feel like you're having breakfast al fresco.

The polished cement floors in the spacious bathroom feel great on bare feet. There is no bathtub, only a shower with amazing water pressure.

And no need to worry about getting enough sleep after enjoying the famously late nightlife of Buenos Aires. Just close the window shutters in the bedroom to keep out the light and you could easily sleep well past noon.

The best thing about the Depto though is its location. San Telmo is the most authentic neighborhood in Buenos Aires. It's got a bohemian artsy vibe to it. Defensa, the main street, is packed with antique shops, cool boutiques, rustic eateries, and street vendors and performers galore every Sunday. You won't realize it though until you are out on the street, because the apartment is in the third block and set back very far from the hustle and bustle.

The apartment comes with a pre-paid cell phone and a land line for local calls, WiFi, speakers for connecting an iPod or MP3 player, a TV and DVD player (with movies), an AC, two gas heaters, a fully equipped kitchen, a microwave, a hairdryer, guidebooks, maps, books, adaptors for electrical devices, linens, towels, and friendly hosts!

The Neighborhood
We love San Telmo's bohemian vibe and authenticity. Though gentrification is definitely happening, it's not pretentious... yet.

In particular, we love that San Telmo is small. No matter which part of the barrio you are in, you'll find a cool place to eat, great bars and cafes, some lovely boutiques (though fewer than in Palermo or Recoleta) and you will mostly hear Spanish.

Getting around
We provide you with a SUBE card that you can top off. The card can be used on buses, the subway, and the trains. We also have a local guide to the bus system which we'll teach you to use when you check-in. Buses are great in BA. They run 24 hours.

Taxis are very cheap compared to other places and you'll pretty much always find one when you need it.

Other Things to Note
We have sheets and towels for a third person. Keep in mind though, that the mattress on the sofa is quite thin. It's probably best for a child and not an adult.

We're on the ground floor, but there a small steps up and down between the three blocks of the building so guests in wheelchairs would need assistance.
