Pedra do Ouro is a small beach surrounded by the protected Pinhal de Leiria, a huge historical pine forest, ordered to seed by King D. Afonso III and King D. Dinis in the XIII century in order to protect cities and farms from the sand and salt which come from the coast.
This makes Pedra do Ouro a wonderful and peaceful place in the middle of the nature. You will be surrounded by green of the trees, yellow of the sand and the blue of the sky and the sea.
It's in the middle of the huge portuguese west coast (Costa de Prata) and therefore there are several beaches around. Some are very popular and mainstream spots like Nazare (19km south), Sao Pedro de Moel (4Km north), Paredes de Vitoria (4Km south) or Praia da Vieira (19Km north), others are kind of desert and protected from human constructions (like Polvoeira, 1Km south), Praia da Concha (6Km north) or Praia Velha (7Km north). Polvoeira, Paredes de Vitoria, Agua de Madeiros and Sao Pedro de Moel are all acessible by walking in the sand.
